In all the style and fashion books I have read, they always make reference to a ‘little black dress’ aka ‘LBD’. I like black dresses, short or otherwise. They feel like a canvas which you can leave as it is, or add a pop of colour.
Her name, Velvet, is derived from her velvet collar which has these unusual gathered peaks that look like mountain tops. The dress revolved around the black velvet used to make the collar and the mission was to find a fabric that would be her equal.
The black ruche fabric of the dress is very unusual. As it stretches across the body, the pattern is a diamond shape. Its raised texture, with a fine mesh fusing the shapes together, is beautifully soft to the touch. Because of the elastane in the fabric it has a wonderful stretch and recovery. The mini dress design is a throwback to the swinging 60s, when people (I don’t know who) used words such as ‘hip’ and ‘groovy’. Velvet is a dress of playful elegance whether you wear sheer tights with it or no tights, or even 60-denier tights for colder weather. Or what about thigh-high boots? Now you’re talking…
To draw attention to the hemline, there is an ever so cute little bow stitched on one side made in velvet ribbon, as is the finish of the dress hemline, again velvet ribbon. I like how a little black dress needs very little introduction, as she is just ‘groovy, man’! The only-one-of-a-kind.
